What does a larger lady pack for a 2 week holiday?

Hi Lidia,

Please help me! I am a terrible overpacker and this year I am going on my first ever 2 week holiday. Its also the first time I have been out of Europe -I am going to Thailand.

We are going in August so I know it will probably be rainy/humid. My biggest problem is that everyone says buy loads of stuff out there-I am a size 20 so can’t imagine there being much choice for me. Our holiday is mainly a lot of sight seeing and staying in a few nice hotels. I don’t want to look a total mess or like a typical fat tourist.

What an earth can I pack in my case?

Many thanks

Hi Wendy,

There is no need to panic! With our fashion tips and with a bit of advance planning you will have the perfect holiday wardrobe in no time.

You are right to say that August in Thailand will be hot and humid, so it is important to pay special attention to what you wear. Go for lightweight, breathable fabrics, which don`t need too much care. Linen trousers are lovely but they will need constant ironing and they are totally unpractical.

Stock up on cotton vests and t-shirts you feel comfortable in; wear them with cropped cargo pants or cropped trousers for sightseeing.

Here some suggestions for the day:

Baby Phat Cargo Lightweight Denim Jacket £76
(Keep it with you on the plane and in case of light showers)

Matching Capri Jeans £76

Baby Phat Swallow Top £55
Available in white, sesame or tan

All available at www.pinkmarzipan.com

Take with you at least 3 or 4 pairs of crop pants. Here are some stylish yet comfy ideas for you:

Joe Browns Roll Up Roll Down Shorts £30
Available in faded khaki and white

Crop Pants £39
Available in white, black and khaki

All available at www.newnow.co.uk

Roll up as many vests and tops as you can, they will never be enough!

Purple Vest £19.99
This beautiful, crease free slinky vest is available at www.curvydiva.co.uk

Or if you prefer short sleeves, you will love this super soft jersey top from Spirito.

Gathered Front V Neck Top £45
Available at www.spirito.co.uk

Together with your swimming costumes, make sure you pack kaftans and sarongs to wear on the beach while you sip cocktails at the bar! This is probably the kind of things that you will be buying over there; so only take one or two from home.

Something like this beautiful chiffon tunic will work both as beachwear and team with a pair of white trousers for the evening.

Chiffon Green Tunic £45
Available at www.curvydiva.co.uk

Sarong – pack of two £16
Available at www.newnow.co.uk

Same thing for shoes; you can find beautiful leather footwear in Thailand, so only pack one pair of comfortable sandals. Gladiators are the latest trend now and they can take you from day to night.

Bronze Gladiator Sandals £130
Available at Kurt Geiger

Finally, a few suggestions for the evenings:

Colourful and practical maxi dresses will be a safe bet – they will look great with flat sandals and ethnic necklaces!

Tie-dye Maxi Dress £55
Available at Evans

Or why not show off your lovely tan in this sophisticated little dress?

Mink Dress £105
Available at www.pinkmarzipan.com

And that’s really all you need! So don’t get carried away with the packing and keep some room in your suitcase for all the lovely things you will buy over there. I hope you find these few suggestions useful.

Have a wonderful time!
Lidia x
