TopStylista’s Summer Fragrance Guide

Something I enjoy doing at the airport is treating myself to a new summer fragrance before I step foot on the plane, but why wait until then? TopStylista’s summer fragrance guide rounds up a variety of designer fragrances ready for you to buy before you go on holiday.

There’s a good reason to buy a fragrance before you fly, it’ll arrive before you jet set off and you’ll be able to wear it for longer throughout summer. You’ll be able to pack it safely around the items in your luggage and when you enter that bustling airport you won’t have any extra weight to hand carry around with you.

There’s no doubt when it comes to choosing a new perfume I’m attracted to eye catching boxes and big designer names but I can waste so much time looking at packaging and not even testing the scents.

Agent Provocateur EDP is one fragrance I’ve always wanted to try because of its packaging. This sensual lingerie brand always tempts me in with their gorgeous bra and knicker sets so I was expecting high hopes from this signature fragrance. The musty smell wasn’t what I was expecting at all and it wasn’t to my taste at all but I have to inform you, a little spray goes a very long way – spray a weeny, tiny bit and it’ll last you all day! The smell was more mature combining saffron oil from India, Egyptian Jasmine and Vetivert from Haiti amongst other exotic elements – certainly not as flirty as I was expecting. A little disappointing for me but I would consider buying it as a gift for my mum as I know she would love it.

Prada Infusion D’Iris EDP is a fragrance that looks totally understated on the perfume shelves and this is what attracted me to it. I love the simple elegant bottle design and I was pleasantly surprised by the smell too. With a classic look and feel I was expecting it to have a similar smell but instead a fresh citrus scent enveloped me. This one too goes a long way so you’re guaranteed it to last you a while. With an invigorating scent combining orange blossom, orris and base notes of vetiver and cedarwood this fragrance hits the right pitch for summer! A flirty feminine fragrance and definitely one I would like to recommend.

The D&G Feminine name doesn’t lend itself to the packaging it’s in. It’s chic and understated but with a name like Feminine I was expecting butterflies in summer meadows with lots and lots of sunshine with a scent offering fresh vibrant summer qualities. Again, the scent was modern and classic, not at all what I was expecting. When first applied the scent was powerful, which represented the packaging it was in and having had chance to settle on my skin I enjoyed it more. Not quite a summer fragrance for me but I would consider it for the autumn months ahead.

Alexander McQueen always fascinates me, I love his edgy label and so I was excited to try his fragrance My Queen. This perfume is actually true of its description. I enjoyed the seductive blend of sweet almond, violet, orange flower absolute, white musk, heliotrope and white flowers. The hint of vanilla is one which I like so in my opinion it’s a stunning grown up perfume, perfect as a holiday evening scent. What more can I say … Seductive and gorgeous.

Ghost Sheer Summer is a rare treat as the name really does conjure up the lightness and purity of summer, which is what the Ghost label does especially well. I love the pink bottle in the floral design packaging but when it’s removed it unfortunately doesn’t have the same impact. I know you shouldn’t make judgement on just the packaging but it’s an interesting observation. The scent is fresh, light and fruity, and perfect for an innocent flirty summer ahead. This is my recommendation for the summer holiday fragrance.
