Topstylista is once again going to ride ahead of the catwalk crowds, capturing the trends, labels, names and faces; as well as offering triumphant tips and inspired ideas – all for you.
What better place or time to start than a season dedicated to revival as well as discovery.
If you’re a free spirit with a passion for the romantic past then this is your time. If you adore Parma violets so much you want to look like one, the catwalks have seen you coming. If you’re still in love with last season’s hit pieces, never fear- fashion is renowned for its eternal system of reusing the things we love, especially with beautiful combinations of old and new, vintage and modern.
Gypsy florals are back, alongside quirky stripes and the indestructible staple that is denim. In this nostalgic style, the 1970s are once again a main theme for designers such as Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs and YSL.
Indeed, the catwalks for S/S15 became the modern stage for inspiration from the times of flower-power, Fleetwood Mac and free love; what better fashion era for combining the gorgeous romantic shapes and shades with the revolutionary power of individuality the fashion industry paid witness to, from a political statement perspective to personal and sexual liberty and exploration.
But what is that I hear? Bohemian Rhapsody? It isn’t just the 70s that the fashion world is rekindling. The rocking 80s are also back in the form of our beloved faux fur, platform boots, snake and alligator skin in all different places… Denim is a big thing. Doing all kinds of styles from military to 90s Barbie-style mini-dresses. Perhaps style this chameleon fabric with last season’s favourite: leather, to create a more snappy up-to-date image.
Shoe-wise, it looks as though we’ll be seeing the return of the Pocahontas style fringing (on bags too no-doubt) alongside high laced sandals and strappy sparklies to add an elegant touch to evenings.
