Opening MY London Fashion Week SS14 with style, Yifang Wan’s collection showcased minimalist chic at its very best!
Playing on her signature tailored look, Wan’s army of crimpled-haired models marched down the runway sporting oversized blazers, high slit maxi skirts, tailored trousers and a plentiful supply of double layering. Clean lines created a structural element to the collection, with the loosely fitted pieces reminiscent of a martial arts uniform. It was simple, yet undeniably dramatic.
Jewelled sunglasses injected a little glamour into the collection: hinting at a theatrical side to Wan’s effortlessly cool muse. While emerald green surfaced as the stand out colour of the collection – an unexpected vibrancy in the classic colour palette of black, charcoal and white. It was a refreshing reinvention of Wan’s sleek and sculptural shapes.
Since winning the prestigious Vauxhall Fashion Scout Merit Award in December 2012, Wan has gained a huge amount of industry interest, and with popular girl band Stooshe sat front row, the Central St. Martin’s graduate needed to pull out all the stops. Clean, classic and cool, Wan’s Spring/Summer 2014 show executed the minimalist look with panache.
