Renowned for producing some of the world’s best up and coming designers, Vauxhall Fashion Scout hosted their biannual Ones To Watch show on Friday, February 13th.
Unmasking the diverse work of Helen Lawrence, Hannah Williams and Renli Su, the collaborative showcase sent a frisson of excitement around the packed Freemason’s hall. And waves of nerves backstage for the three novel designers, just seconds away from unveiling their collections to a sea of fashion press.
First up was Helen Lawrence. Having cut her teeth at Alexander McQueen and Mark Fast, the designer’s adoption of unconventional materials were far from surprising. Crop-sleeved jumpers, modernized with an ink-black graphic print, came in bold neon yellow, soft powder pink and blue, or else were toned down and toughened up in muted tones of charcoal grey. And what better accompaniment is there to a graphic jumper than barely-there, PVC hot pants triumphed by a transparent plastic skirt? Helen Lawrence’s contemporary aesthetic ensured the collection was superlative in cut and radical in design: definitely one to watch.
