8 Week Singapore Capsule Wardrobe

Hi Chantelle,

I absolutely love your no nonsense, never failing fashion advice on holiday wardrobes – in fact I would go as far as to say I have practically turned it into a mantra!

As a new mummy my time is limited but I still like a bit of glamour and style. I’m 28, a size 12 and 5ft 9 and facing a challenge which is bringing me out in a cold sweat. I am relocating to Singapore with my husbands work and need a capsule wardrobe to last at least 8 weeks before the rest of my clothes arrive. I have never been to Singapore before, but from what I gather it is extremely hot, humid and rains at least once a day!

Please help me become a yummy mummy xxx

Thanks so much for your email. Your trip sounds very exciting and when I visited Singapore, although years ago, I loved it! Singapore`s climate is hot and muggy so you`ll need a wardrobe, which is light to wear, easy to pack and stylish, of course. There are fabulous trends, which you can include that you can mix and match to create more than imagined outfits for this trip.

My advice is it’s always best to start from the bottom and work your way up or concentrate on getting the main pieces sorted first then accessorise with tops and everyday items. You’ll see what I mean …

This kaftan from my-wardrobe.com is beautifully lightweight, easy to wear from day through to evening and can be worn with by itself by the pool, with linen trousers, cropped denim or trousers and leggings, city shorts – the list is endless! Coordinate some pretty vest tops underneath for essential cover up during the day.

Look for cotton or silk t’s and vest tops that have unusual necklines and sleeve details. The idea is to include ten variations that can be easily teamed with a selection of trousers, skirts or shorts. I like this one from ASOS.com you don’t have to spend a lot on them as these will be going in the wash more than other items due to the hot climate conditions.

This linen skirt from Jaeger has a bold floral print but also looks on trend and tribal! Wear it with the t-shirt above or check your nearest Jaeger store as they have some gorgeous coloured t-shirt tops that will match perfectly with this skirt. Again, it’s a great piece to take you from day through to evening and all you need to do is accessorise to the max for night time. A simple solution is to change from daytime gladiator flats to metallic embellished sandals for an evening without the kids.

This simplistic vest top is fabulous quality and will look stunning with the floral, tribal skirt (above) from Jaeger.

You don’t have to think short lengths just because it’s hot. In fact a maxi dress could be your new best friend – they’re glamourous, flattering and lightweight. Wear with gladiator flats during the day and heeled platforms in the evening. To dramatise your outfit for night time accessorise with a variation of bangles – bold and chunky and metallic and skinny, along with a tribal-esque necklace.

Linen trousers are essential for hot climates, they’re great for travelling in and easy to maintain! Go for Navy, Brown or White for a more summery look and create an effortless look teaming them with kaftan and tunic top styles, with shape.

Hope these ideas has helped … Have fun and enjoy your new capsule wardrobe!
