I’m going to a wedding in May and have been trying to find something suitable. It in a very posh venue so I need something that looks expensive!
I’ve seen lots of lovely dresses around but alas I have shapeless legs and just cannot get away with it even with tights and very high shoes!
I am definitely pear shaped, size 10 on the bottom and 8 on top so all the wide leg and high waist trousers around at the moment make me look very bottom heavy.
I’ve been trawling the Internet, walking miles and miles around the shops but cannot seem to find anything to suit my shape or that caters for all weather prospects! I’ve a budget of around £250-300.
Any advice would be very much appreciated!
Having a pear shaped body means you have to dress cleverly to accommodate your smaller upper body and slightly larger lower body. For example, as you said, high waist trousers only accentuate the hips area and do not look flattering on your body shape.
If you`re not too keen on dresses, then I think the best option you have is a trouser suit. With the right combination of accessories, this could be an effortlessly chic look that would work for this occasion.
Short fitted jackets look great on your body shape as they give the appearance of a bigger bust and wider shoulders, recreating the balance between your upper and lower body. As May be a little hotter (hopefully) then you could always choose to wear a jacket with three quarter or short sleeves giving a more feminine look. A belted jacket will accentuate your small waist; why not add your own belt, which will add more personality to your outfit – I like the thin patent ones that come in electric colours.
When it comes to finding the perfect pair of trousers always pay attention to the length, you don`t want them flapping round by your ankles. Trouser styles that will suit your body shape are straight, bootleg or wide leg styles that are flat fronted. If you would like a more summery look then a slightly longer pair of Capri pants, which end just below your knee, will do just the job.
One of my favourites is this trouser suit from the Temptation Summer 08 Collection by Malene Birger
This is an amazing ensemble, with the right combination of clothes and accessories.
Here are some tips to help recreate your look:
¾ length sleeves linen jacket, Nicole Farhi at House of Fraser, £150
Straight leg trousers, Episode at House of Fraser, £71.20
Reiss also has some great trouser options and they have an amazing fit!
Black trousers, Reiss, £89
Complete the outfit with a loose fitting blouse or a top in lightweight fabric – tuck it in for an ultra feminine touch.
Chiffon blouse, Topshop, £38
However, if it`s a daytime wedding, you might want to stay away from black. Beiges and camels are very sophisticated colours and will work just as well; just select the hue that suits your skin tone.

With matching cropped, straight leg trousers, £79
