For this summer`s campaign, Lee Cooper has entitled the collection The Makers which is inspired by the words of poet Arthur O’Shaughnessey, who describes Makers as being `The music-makers, the dreamers of dreams, world-losers and world-forsakers, the movers and the shakers.†The next generation of makers are Clara, an illustration graduate who creates elegant characters and subtle worlds of astonishing detail, Alex, an audio craftsman whose client list includes Chloe, Dazed Digital and Kurt Geiger, Alice, a graduate of London`s Chelsea College of Art who paints unique spaces that are inspired by her fascination with the way people react to their environments, and James, whose jewellery stands at the intersection between the technicality of Art Nouveau and the weight and form of his craft`s heritage.
The Makers, who live and work in and around East London, are young creators who continue to refuse the shortcuts of modernity and share the time-honoured art of working hard, rock n roll, learning their craft, making their own way and putting their stamp on the world. It`s people like this who will inspire future generations to push forward with their dreams and to show that creativity comes in all different forms. The four of them represent the future of their respective crafts and are the latest in a long and vibrant lineage of Lee Cooper makers which includes the likes of Jane Birkin, Serge
Gainsbourg and the Rolling Stones.
Each maker is showcasing a variety of cool laidback looks that have a slight retro/vintage edge to pump up the style factor as a lot of inspiration these days comes from past eras. Brands revamp and modernise garments and the clothing featured in this summer campaign have a real 90s grunge feel to them.
The makers are dressed in classic denim shapes and designs, which can be seen in different washes and colours, and are teamed with a variety of other pieces to create that real understated I-just-threw-these-outfits-together kind of look that really captures the essence and tradition of Lee Cooper. The women`s denim items are complimented with slouchy t-shirts, crochet knitwear, printed vest, a chambray shirt and for a feminine twist an all-over print dress is also available. The men`s collection features layered and double denim looks that are worn with t-shirts, shirts and either a dyed, biker or Harrington jacket.
The campaign imagery, which was shot around Brick Lane further highlighting Lee Cooper’s Shoreditch roots, is mesmerizingly beautiful and captivating. From the styling all the way to the composition, every shot feels effortless yet fashionably now as if you just strolled past these young creators just hanging out. Pure genius!
