Toughen Up Spring Looks with Leather

Posted by Jamie Nicholson on Fri 22nd February 2013 at 08:30 AM, Filed in Styling TipsTrends

It’s slightly weird to see leather pieces in spring/summer collections as this versatile material is normally associated with the colder months.  I think it’s highly refreshing though that leather is finally breaking away from its clichés and making a mark on next season giving women the chance to contrast it against the more feminine trends we’re expecting to see.

Leather looks set to be one of spring 2013’s hottest trends so why not give it a go and add a couple pieces to your wardrobe.  Designers featured a fair amount of leather on the runways from colourful structured tops and skirts to sleek colour blocked trousers.  You can even take a fresh approach to cocktail dressing with certain essentials or keep things cool with a peplum top, skirt or shift dress.  Plus who could forget the trusty leather jacket which doesn’t seem to tire in the fashion world, proving to be a wardrobe staple for many women.

Even if you think wearing leather throughout spring and into summer is taking things a bit too far, you can’t help but be intrigued.  Wearing this type of fabric when there is a chill in the air seems natural but do women really want to bare the brunt of this trend when temperatures start to rise?  It’s hard to say really, but I’m sure there will be a fair number of us who won’t be able to resist the allure of sporting leather infused pieces next season.

Warehouse is a great place to start the hunt for gorgeous leather separates proving you don’t have to sweat it out in a full head-to-toe getup to be in style.  The Strappy Dress is the perfect fusion of sexiness and sophistication.  It is a real statement piece and will be sure to make an impact when worn.  Accessorise wisely with a simple clutch and heels.  Another great choice is the Full Skirt which is made from realistic faux leather and gives off a full skater style shape.  It’s perfect for city girls and to toughen up t-shirts and knitwear during the day and an embellished top for the evening.  High heeled ankle boots will look best with this wardrobe staple.

Another, simpler, option is to just sport a leather bag.  The arm candy will be enough to get you high up on the style radar without you having to sacrifice comfort this spring.  Warehouse’s red Bolt Trim Bag and Leopard Print Satchel are perfect examples!
