The micro Mini … love it or loathe it but who does it really suit?

There’s always one thing (at least) that women would like to change about their bodies and with me it’s got to be my chunky thighs … I try and hide them with whatever clothing I can find, skirts work well and I know which styles will make my thunder thighs look slimmer and skim the best they can but sometimes I feel sad as I’d like to be more adventurous. With being a Pear body shape it’s not a problem dressing my top half but I struggle immensely with my lower body and buying trousers seems a nightmare in itself - I would really love someone to help me find the perfect pair of jeans but wouldn’t we all.

It’s not all doom and gloom … spring is the start of a new season, it’s time to shed those winter blues and focus on the all the new trends. The colours are mesmerising and new shapes start to fill the gaps in my wardrobe, the thought is totally blissful. One trend I can’t get to grips with is the mini skirt, which is making a massive come back BUT who does this style of skirt really suit?

For the younger generation especially if you’re about 12 years old people automatically think that you look older so maybe that’s a plus point but it’s a guaranteed cert that the high street during summer months will look like a meat market and surely that’s not a good thing with dirty old men in sunglasses peering through the lenses making a beeline for innocent teens, the thought fills me with dred.

AND if you’re over the age of 30 then it’s a definite NO NO as there’s a stigma attached with showing off too much leg but how come we see those stunning models in Vogue wearing the micro mini? These beautiful clotheshorses are basically advertising each designer’s collections and to be fair they could wear any sort of bin liner and still look amazing, so they have to be excused. They are paid to look great and they clearly do! We should leave them to it.

It’s when people like me (with chunky legs) start thinking that because something’s in fashion that maybe it could actually look good on but I truly know in my heart of hearts that it would look hideous so then I don’t go there. As I said I would like to be more adventurous and follow more up-to-date trends but at the end of the day I want to look the best I can in the clothes that suit me so there’s no need to get too depressed or overwhelmed. The moral of this story is ‘if something doesn’t work then go with your instincts, stick to what you know but push the boundaries to make your clothes interesting and fun to wear’ you know when something looks unflattering. Just because the mini is back and looks great on Agyness Deyn doesn’t necessarily mean you have wear one the same.

READER COMMENTS:

me too im a pear shape and curvy. but just because im curvy doesn’t mean i can wear plus sizes.. plus size styles look so beautiful but are too large for me.  “Regular” sizes, no matter how large, never fit even if it’s a 12, because they dont allow for curvy thighs or bum that i have.  And the styles are dull in comparison to the plus size styles.  it’s a nightmare shopping for pants or trouser and i end up hating myself when im in the dressing room..what a way to chip away at the good ol’ self esteem..more like jackhammer away at it. :(
