In Partnership with the Sunday Times, this three-day festival of fashion and beauty will be returning to the Midlands with plenty on offer. Visitors will be taken around the city in their very own transport system to experience an array of fabulous venues, events, entertainment and shopping treats feeling every inch like a celebrity!  Top retailers that have already given their support of Style in the City 2009 are The Bullring, Selfridges and House of Fraser, which will be hosting exclusive events and promotions on every floor of their stores!  Live fashion entertainment, designer goodie bag pick ups and mini makeovers are just a few of the temptations occurring around the City.  Silvia Dorigo of organisers Brand Events commented -

“One of the reasons we keep coming back to Birmingham to host Style in the City is its growing reputation as a hub for fashion – thanks in part to the likes of up and coming young designers like Osman Yousefzada who is currently setting the fashion world alight. From what we’ve seen, it looks like these talented young designers could soon be following in his footsteps!”

The All Star catwalk shows will be returning, which were the main highlight of last year’s event, but will be moving from Centenary Square to a space adjacent to the main entrance of the Mailbox and will be known as ‘Fashion Square’.  The shows will feature today’s accessible looks along with the latest offerings from International fashion designers!  A cocktail bar will be at the Venue where you can catch your breath and soak up the atmosphere, have a good old natter with your girlfriends or even check out the Jewel Room where individual designers will be selling the latest in contemporary jewellery – what a treat!

Selfridges will once again play host to a live show hosted by fashion experts after the popularity of last year’s Style Academy with Trinny and Susannah.  The Pavilions Shopping Centre will be offering a Pamper Zone and The Oasis will be double in size!  This will give more shoppers the chance to relax and be indulged by a team of expert beauty therapists.  Sounds perfect!

To mark the first day on which the tickets went on sale for this fashion and beauty event, fashion students from Matthew Boulton College were put to the test when they were tasked to create a haute couture dress made entirely out of paper!  The piece was commissioned by the Style in the City Birmingham organisers and it took a team of five students 10 hours to make!  Emily Ford-Halliday who is the tutor for fashion at Matthew Boulton College, said:

“When we were asked if we’d like to create a bespoke piece to celebrate the Style in the City ticket launch, we jumped at the chance!  It’s not every day an event this glamorous and with such great fashion pedigree comes to Birmingham.  Working with paper instead of the usual cotton and thread provided some interesting challenges but we’re really pleased with the results.”

Made out of the tickets for the event, the final piece looked stunning and extremely stylish – something I could actually see myself wearing!  The winner of Miss Student UK, and up and coming Midlands model, Katie Archer showcased the student’s handiwork and looked every inch a style icon!

Tickets are now on sale, and would be a perfect present of any aspiring fashionista!  For more information and to purchase tickets visit the website at www.styleinthecityevent.co.uk or call the number 0871 230 7150.
