Self Tanning Recommendations from TopStylista
How do you make sense of all the self-tan products that are on the market at the moment? We all look better with a sun-kissed glow but are aware of the dangers of burning in the sun. I have been testing lots of new products on the market for at home tanning.

To achieve instant colour on a night out I love spray on colour in a can! Quick and easy to use, Almay’s ‘Bare-it-all Legs create flawless legs instantly. Blend in for even colour with your hands and you are left with a sheer golden glow that covers imperfections. A variation of the aerosol spray cover is by Air Stocking - Premier Silk. A micro-fine powder gives the impression of wearing tights when it covers your legs in a fine mist. It is waterproof and has SPF and helps hide any blemishes without full-on colour. There is a gentler version available for the face by Almay Fast and Flawless, which when blended very well gives wash-off tan as if you have been airbrushed.

Another way to achieve instant colour for a special occasion or if you’re feeling a bit pale, is to use Sexy Summer Ultimate Fake Tan by Pout. The cream formula when rubbed in leaves a shimmery glow that develops into an even tan within a couple of hours. The fact that the colour is already developed when coming out of the tube means you can see the areas you may have missed!
The only true way to get the best out of a home tanning kit is to follow a pre-routine. Always exfoliate your skin first when in the shower with either a body scrub of with a pair of exfoliating gloves. Always moisturise well especially around the most important areas of rough skin, which include ankles, knees and elbows. If you tan your face, pay attention to your hairline and eyebrows when applying moisturiser. When you are ready to apply a fake tan wear rubber gloves so not to end up with orange hands!
A complete package that comes with three individual bottles of exfoliator, moisturiser and foaming self-tan that develops instantly is the three-step process by St.Tropez. I have never achieved a deep even colour and was very impressed with this kit. The colour is deep so you will not need to apply a lot, which means it will last all summer if you use sparingly!

St. Tropez has also brought out an everyday tanner, which is a moisturiser with a soft sheen that gradually, develops into a gentle glow throughout the day. Unlike some other products you don’t have to wait for ages for your tan to dry before you get dressed. There are many similar products on the market at the moment that are great for those who are wary of strong tans or who simply want to top up their holiday tan. Clinique has a daily body moisturiser with a hint of tan. The formula is gentle enough to not develop streaky marks and leaves the body feeling enriched and smooth.
A cheap way to give yourself a flush of colour when you are feeling pale is bronzer. There are so many shades available including a rich pressed powder by St. Tropez, which should be swept over cheeks and temples with a large blusher brush. Elizabeth Arden has produced a two-shade compact that can be used all over which comes with its own brush and compact.

All products are available from Beauty Counter Direct.
