On holiday with Miss Perfect

It’s been a while since I last tried to diet, but there’s nothing quite like the threat of you in a swimming pool alongside the most beautiful girl from your boyfriends former school to buck up your ideas!
That’s right just two weeks to go until I embark upon a dream winter skiing holiday to the Alps with my other half and seven other guys and girls. Skiing might not sound as though I should be worrying about my bikini body, but this stupidly was not something I considered when enthusiastically signing up for our luxury hotel complete with swimming pool, sauna and spa!
So here I am writing this after having jogged home from work (more on that another time), scrubbed and lotioned in the shower, taken my vitamins and eaten my steamed fish and veg. All in good faith but realistically I know that with three weekends of wine ahead of me, there really is no hope of me suddenly Myleening. What to do, well I think I have two choices:
a) Feign some hideous foot infection deeming me void from all wet activities.
b) Invest in some seriously good swimwear.
Normally I would have planned for such a shopping spree, and saved for that matter, but it’s January and there is no hope that the tills in Heidi Klein will let my credit card through with kindness and those Melissa Odabash cossie’s are just a dream.
So as my mother, your mother and the Calendar Girls would say, ‘If in doubt, go to M&S’. Now I’m in my 20’s and on a special occasion might even class myself as an ‘edgy’ dresser so I don’t want you turning your noses up just yet. The fact of the matter is this clothing giant is back on track fashion wise, just look at that electric blue trench modelled by girl of the moment Lily Cole. But the reason that people have been shopping there for what seems like centuries, the quality choice and availability, is exactly why I’m checking it out in my hour of need. They are offering high waists, support, tankini’s and halters all in cute prints in the depth of winter, with great detail and at a price my January wallet is willing to try. So I order a couple from the website to try on in the comfort of my own home, just me and my mirror to make the decision in my own time. I’m trying the classic bikini with the hope that the higher waist (coincidently SO back in this year, thank god!) will help me out where the running will no doubt fail, and also the zebra print which is sure to help avert the eye from my thigh. I like the look of this fashion print as much as I don’t like the look of those incey Topshop stingy things.
So here I am and it’s not to say that I wouldn’t still like a more toned tummy turning up in three weeks, but the mani-pedi is booked and I’m going to be in that pool, next to Miss Perfect and I’m going to feel good godammit! Now where are the grapes ... !
