My Work Experience with Fashion Stylist Mark Heyes

Being able to do work experience with a fashion stylist has always been one of my dreams and this year I was lucky enough to do two whole days with Fashion Stylist Mark Heyes!

Of course it was the perfect excuse to go shopping with my very own stylist and also have the opportunity of buying two new outfits!

For those of you who don’t know Mark Heyes is best known for his on screen appearances on LK Today on GMTV and having created the High Street Fashion Awards, which are the only, fashion awards voted for by the public.

On my first day of work experience with Mark I travelled up to London and went to my favourite shop of all time – Topshop!  I observed him and his assistant Sarah in the store while they grabbed some last minute clothes and accessories for LK Today.

On the second day I went into the GMTV studio and observed Mark doing a fashion piece on LK Today.  I was taken aback by the huge selection of gorgeous clothes and suitcase full of shoes – it was heavenly!  I chatted to the models and took one their dresses to the wardrobe department to be steamed.

Mark went through what each model would be wearing and produced a list describing where the items of clothes, shoes and accessories were from along with the price so it could be given to the producer for that particular feature.  The models were sporting this years hottest summer looks including an Americana outfit and a gorgeous green maxi dress.

It was interesting to see what went on behind the scenes in the studio for one of Mark’s fashion pieces and secondly the detailed planning that also went into the feature.

No luck nabbing a couple freebies though – the clothes ALL had to be taken back …

As far as I know Mark doesn’t usually take anyone on for Work Experience. My dad, who works for GMTV, mentioned to him that I’m interested in fashion and suggested that I do a couple days with him. ^_^

I think that he has terrible taste. He puts together things that look as if they were found in a jumble sale.
He is continually promoting Primark - stating “how do they do it so cheaply?” Well darling you get what you pay for they look cheap and shoddy and are produced by exploiting their workers. This man irritates me immensely.
