Matthew Williamson’s Summer ‘09 Collection for H&M
As summer is well within sight now, celebrities and passionate followers of Matthew Williamson gathered in New York recently to celebrate the designer’s second collection for high street fave H&M. This summer collection follows the successful launch of his limited-edition womenswear collection that launched in April.
This exclusive launch party was held on The Majesty, a boat that was docked at the South Street Seaport, with guests such as Lucy Liu, Helena Christensen and Mary-Kate Olson wandering around wearing the new collection for all to see! A special performance by Style Icon Grace Jones wowed celebs, and music by DJ Michel Gaubert and DJ Hanna Hanra played out from the boat. Lucy Liu commented –
“I think Matthew’s line right now is perfect timing. It is warm and gorgeous in New York and he always brings so much colour and spring everywhere he goes.”
The boat was decked out in a tropical beach theme, creating a fashion buzz in New York City. The hosts and hostesses were dressed as sailors, which complimented the glam cruise trend this season. Apparently Matthew himself arrived at the party in one of his own designs from the collection and he was seen strolling down the black and pink carpet greeting worldwide media that couldn’t resist this star-studded event. Matthew said –
“Working with H&M has been such a wonderful experience. The global launch event in New York City was a spectacular soiree. I was delighted to see so many of my friends from the fashion world support this collection. The models were beautiful and it was a special treat to have Grace Jones perform for me and my friends. I hope everyone is as excited as I am for my collection to hit stores globally on May 14 – including my first ever designs for men.”
Inside the ship, guests were able to view the summer collection which had Williamson’s style written all over it. Signature prints, tailored cuts and for the first time, a menswear line inspired by his own sophisticated style. Models swaggered around the party wearing pieces from the stunning collection.
What I get from the collection is that the clothes are bright, bold and fun – everything a girl absolutely needs from a fabulous summer outfit! The menswear collection is extremely stylish and out-there with unusual prints too.
