Help Me Dress For My Mummy Tummy ...

Posted by Chantelle on Tue 11th September 2007 at 07:00 AM, Filed in

Hey, my name is Maria. I am a 22 year old mum and have no idea about fashion.

My sister has tried to knock me into gear in getting my wardrobe in tip top shape and youthful again. So, I searched online and found some really nice white bootleg pants with blue denim pockets on each side of my legs.

The problem is that I have no top that goes with them and to top it off I have a ‘mummy tummy’, you know - one with stretch marks and excess skin flapping round ...

Picture a size 6 petite girl jumping to a size 18 tummy, that’s what I have ... so, I need a long top to cover it. I am now back to a size 6-8 so hopefully that helps a bit.

Can you help a desperate young mum to become sexy and youthful again?

Many thanks,
Maria

Hi Maria,

Thank you so much for your fashion agony. I enjoyed reading it very much!

You have a petite frame so I would like you to show it off.

There are clever tricks to hide a ‘mummy tummy’ and firstly I would say that you don’t always have to opt for a longer top to hide this area. Detail around your tummy area along with patterns can often do the trick.

By the sounds of it you have a small frame so if you want to wear a patterned top then opt for small and delicate shapes or abstracts which will complement your body scale. By wearing a pattern on your top half will hide your ‘mummy tummy’ without anyone even noticing it.

Another good trick is to look for tops that have extra material in them around the midriff area. Ruche, pleat detail and tunic tops are also fabulous for concealing your ‘mummy tummy’.

Here are some tops I have chosen for you which, I hope give you some inspiration.
Good luck and please let me know how you get on.
