Full skirts & tiny waists – the Retro Dressing Trend for Autumn/Winter 2010!
One of my favourite trends for Autumn/Winter 2010 is retro dressing! Think full skirts, cinched in waists and classic accessories. You could even take inspiration from style icons like Dita Von Teese and Marilyn Monroe.

Dries Van Noten

Loewe

Louis Vuitton

Nina Ricci
Louis Vuitton has a gorgeous Taffeta and Velvet Corset and Taffeta and Velvet Skirt which perfectly represent this trend. The pieces are classy, feminine and sexy but in a subtle way and enhances the womanly figure beautifully. Other designers that were seen sporting retro style outfits were Nina Ricci, Dries Van Noten and Loewe.
Balcony corsetry plays a bit part in pulling off this trend as it gives women a perfect silhouette and teamed with a wasp-waisted skirt or a smart pencil skirt you’ll be the talk of the town as both styles are just as sexy. Prom dresses were also seen on the catwalks and if you want to tone down the outfit slightly button them all the way up to the collar. It’s all about embracing and showing off the womanly form. Tiny waists, cinched in with a skinny belt, and full hips are the way to go.
A great accessory to accompany your chosen outfit is a pair of elbow length gloves which were seen all over the international catwalks. Versace, Donna Karen, Marc Jacobs and Ports 1961 all had their own take on them. From soft leather and suede, short or elbow lengths and two-tone styles. Colours such as metallics and subtle shades of mulberry, olive, Air Force blue and black were all used. Experiment by leaving the gloves long or scrunched down your forearm to create interesting looks that any fashionista would be proud of. Complete your retro style outfit with a pair of leather court shoes and a framed handbag.
