Dress Down Dilemma

Dear Fashion Agony,
My company operates a dress down day on Fridays. The only problem is that there are restrictions...no jeans. I really can’t understand what I might wear that is “dress-down” and not jeans as I tend to go smart-casual most days anyway, which means boring black trousers. What can I wear on a Friday that is different from any other day without being too dressed up or having to resort to the boring black trousers? Helena, Basingstoke - by email

I can totally see where your coming from on this fashion agony ... A good option instead of jeans is a smart pair of corduroy trousers. Like jeans they come in a variety of styles. For your ‘dress down’ day at work go for a dark colour bootleg style corduroy trouser which can be worn with a smart, plain chiffon blouse with vest top underneath or a good fitting vest top and knitted shrug.
