Battle of the Autumn/Winter 2010 outerwear – Camel Coats Vs Parkas!

Most women look for the perfect statement coat when it’s nearing the colder months.  Something they’re bound to get the most use out of, but still stylish and on trend at the same time.  Two styles that were seen all over the Autumn/Winter 2010 runways (and the high street for that matter) are Camel Coats and Parkas.  But which style to choose?!

I absolutely love Camel Coats.  Seen on the catwalks of Gucci, MaxMara, Chloe and Hermes they simply just radiate sophisticated elegance and the classic style of the coat makes it the perfect item for smartening up an outfit.  Wear one with a crisp white shirt, black tapered trousers then cinch in your waist with a dark brown leather belt.  There’s such an array of styles to choose from nowadays such as floor-length dressing-gown designs, enveloping wraparound styles and mannish shapes.  The next step is choosing a shade that suits your skin tone.  The best way to do this is to experiment by holding different versions against your neck as the colour palette can vary from the lightest buff to dark toffee.

If, however, you want to go for a coat style that has that edgy urban glamour look to it then the Parka is the perfect choice.  From army-surplus jackets to shearling-lined beauties – who knew that there were so many styles of Parkas out there!  Burberry Prorsum, Margaret Howell, Vanessa Bruno and Rochas all rocked this coat on the Autumn/Winter 2010 runways.  I think most women that are drawn into buying this coat like the fact that they are functional yet still remain stylish.  Multiple pockets to put your belongings in, drawstrings to define your shape and windproof collars or protective hoods – practical but great to look at!  They’re extremely versatile too and are perfect for both day and night.  Jeans, smart skirts and trousers and slouchy knitwear would all look fabulous worn with a Parka.  A definite go-to coat on those horrible rainy days!

So which style do you prefer girls?  The Camel Coat or the Parka?  I have to admit though I have one of each!  But what can I say?  I love to shop and I love choices when I open my wardrobe!
