Ahoy There! Can you help with my holiday wardrobe …

Dear Chantelle,

I was so impressed with your succinct and comprehensive advice with packing for an Asian Summer Holiday I thought I’d try my luck in getting it just right for my holiday in the Adriatic this summer.

I have been lucky enough to be invited on board an 80ft yacht for two weeks in late August. My partner and I fly into Venice and after a short time there we will meet the boat to flit down the Dalmatian Coast, around the ‘boot’, perhaps Sicily and on to Rome with a two-day party stop in Dubai on the way back.

I’m really aware of the necessity to pack light for the boat but I also want to look stylish and have some options on-shore. To exacerbate the issue I’m very curvy (a bit plump) and white as a (very Scottish freckle-y) sheet. And I’ve got canckles!!

Fashion agony is a given, without some judicious advice.

Thanking you in advance,
Sarah – by email

Dear Sarah,

Many thanks for your fashion agony. I am really pleased you enjoyed reading the Asian Summer Holiday article - it took a lot of thought!

I have re-read your fashion agony and have interpreted your trip down to the following simple itinerary in order to help me grasp how many days you are spending where, but mainly I appreciate that you will be spending most of your time on the yacht.

Venice – 4 days
Yacht – 2 weeks
Sicily – 2 days
Rome – 2 days
Dubai – stop over on way back

One of the main issues with your holiday wardrobe is going to be minimal space and comfort whilst travelling on the yacht. I have listed below what items I think you’ll need to create a few different looks, mostly casual but functional.

Essential holiday wardrobe for two-week yachting trip:

1 x Linen trousers - doesn’t matter if they crease and easy to wear
2 x Kaftans - buy adorned kaftans to create some style and glamour
1 x Long Kaftan - buy white, jewelled or embroidered
1 x Bikinis / Swimwear - whatever you feel most comfortable in
Leather Messenger Bag - perfect for site seeing and stop overs
Cotton Trousers with Leg Pockets, Roll-up - not the most stylish but very versatile
Sweatshirt – for warmth on those cold nights
Sunglasses – essential for any holiday
4 x T-shirts - use these to mix and match
2 x Vest tops - use these to mix and match
Comfortable jewelled sandals – to wear on the yacht and site seeing
Pashmina – a great cover-up when site seeing or for cold evenings on the yacht
2 x Maxi Dress – a great length for you and stylish cover-up

Linen Trousers
I got from your email that you don’t like showing off your legs too much so some long linen trousers are perfect for a light weight casual look. These can be worn comfortably on the yacht or easily for site seeing. Go for some navy linen trousers, they are good neutral colour that will go with anything and really get into the sailing experience.

Kaftans
The kaftans are very versatile and can be worn by themselves with swimwear underneath on the yacht or just as easily for site seeing. Pair them up with your linen trousers for a stylish and comfortable site seeing outfit. Both items are light weight so can be rolled up and packed away with loads of room to spare.

The long kaftan is an addition – thinking you could wear this over your swimwear on the yacht when it’s hot and if you feel like being glamourous with very little effort, this is perfect. This is also a great cover-up that will definitely cover up those canckles you mentioned too! Another option would be to team the long kaftan up with a belt and jewelled sandals for another comfortable site seeing outfit.

Leather Messenger Bag
These bags are a great size to hold everything you will need to take for site seeing - drinks, magazines, essential cover-up, sun cream, the whole lot. A highly recommended item for your trip! You don’t have to go for leather bag, a canvas one will work just as well.

Cotton Trousers with Leg Pockets, Roll-up
I found these trousers on the Quba Sails website and they are really for wearing on the yacht. They are versatile and can be worn as long trousers or rolled up as shorts. An essential and comfortable pair of hardwearing trousers, if your feeling brave you can bear your legs and wear them site seeing! Again, the navy pair would be the colour for you to go for.

Swimwear
Get inspired – swimwear doesn’t have to be boring. Here are some of my favourite brands of swimwear at the moment.

Elizabeth Hurley Beach
Papillion Bleu
Poppi Swim

Maxi Dress
Maxi dresses are really hot this Summer and will be perfect for you to take on your trip. Keep these for wearing out to dinner and you’ll feel comfortable yet stylish. Wear with your pashmina and sandals in any of your stop over cities - there are loads around to choose from so you won’t be stuck for choice. They are easy to pack and can be rolled up so not to crease them.

Hope this has helped you with some ideas of what to take.
Have an amazing time!

READER COMMENTS:

Thank you so much for your advice! For a chick who fancies herself as pretty independant, I’m not ashamed to admit that this is now pretty much my packing bible.

Thanks heaps.
