The skull scarf became an instant hit with celebrities and style enthusiasts across the globe with it first being seen in the SS03 Irere collection. Since then, the signature accessory has been adapted in various prints and colours in the following seasons never leaving our fashion radar, thankfully, so it was no surprise that the designer brand wanted to do something rather special to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the beloved skull piece.
The shared aesthetic vision of Alexander McQueen and Damien Hirst is what brought this interesting collaboration into reality as both share an interest in symmetrical design combined with strong references to the natural world. The scarf collection consists of 30 one-off designs and each has been adapted from Hirst`s Entomology series. Butterflies, bugs, spiders and other insects have been worked to form kaleidoscopic geometric shapes, laid out to create the signature McQueen skull motif. The finished pieces are incredibly powerful. The underlying dark side mixed with the beauty of the natural world create an intriguing balance.
For the launch of the Alexander McQueen and Damien Hirst exclusive scarf collection, photographer Sølve Sundsbø created a series of images and a short film. If you have yet to check it out then head over to the Alexander McQueen website to watch it. It`s mesmerizingly beautiful and truly captivating!
These scarves will no doubt turn into collector`s items and are available in Chiffon, Pongé, Twill and Cashmere with prices ranging from £315.00 to £715.00. All 30 designs are limited and available at Alexander McQueen stores worldwide and from the scarf boutique of AlexanderMcqueen.com.
